Jody Kollapan has been a judge of the High Court, Gauteng Division, Pretoria since 2011 and has served as an acting judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. He is the chairperson of the South African Law Reform Commission and prior to his appointment as a judge, Kollapan served as the head of the South African Human Rights Commission. He previously practiced as an attorney and worked for Lawyers for Human Rights where he coordinated the “Release Political Prisoners” program which championed the rights of political prisoners. During his time as a human right’s lawyer he handled ground breaking cases such as the Delmas Treason Trial and the trial of the Sharpeville six.
