Ektaa Deochand is an attorney in the land programme. She is based in the LRC’s Johannesburg office. She completed her LLB and LLM in Constitutional Litigation at UKZN.
She served articles in the LRC Durban office in 2014 and 2015. She then worked as an attorney in the LRC KwaZulu-Natal satellite office where she conducted strategic litigation and facilitated multiple community outreach initiatives. In 2017 she joined the public interest organization Section27, where she focused on access to healthcare services for marginalized groups and access to education for learners with disabilities. In 2019 she participated in the Human Rights Advocates Program at Columbia University where she engaged with a range of human rights activists and institutions. In January 2021, Ektaa returned home to the LRC and is currently based in the Johannesburg office. Her focus areas include redistribution of land; access to community resources; traditional governance; and women’s equitable access to resources.
