For Immediate Release: 04 September 2019

Legal Resources Centre is deeply concerned by what has transpired in the past few weeks in our country. As an organisation which advocates for the protection of marginalised persons in the country, we are once again faced with the reality that our work is far from over. We condemn the xenophobic attacks that have been taking place in Gauteng against our fellow African brothers and sisters and the violence perpetuated against women and children.

The LRC firmly believes in a united South Africa where everyone has a place.  A South Africa which is non-partisan, non-sexist, non-racist and non-xenophobic.  We reject any notions of exclusion and expression of violence against women, children and non-South Africans living in South Africa.

The LRC would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm its constitutional imperatives and we will continue to fight for substantive equality. We join the call for our government to take concrete decisive steps that will ensure the safety of everyone in our country.
